re.venture has announced an exciting development in the renewable energy sector with plans for a large-scale battery storage park in Brandenburg, Germany. This facility will not only be the largest battery plant within the service area of utility provider e.dis but also one of the most significant approved battery parks across Germany. Covering 1.5 hectares, it will boast a capacity of 60 MW and a storage capability of up to 240 MWh, sufficient to provide electricity to the city of Neuruppin for approximately 12 hours. Set to commence construction in 2026 and targeting completion in 2027, this project is designed to enhance grid stability and efficiency by addressing local energy generation challenges.

Strategic Location and Purpose

The newly proposed battery storage park is strategically situated within a designated “relief area” as outlined by e.dis. This specific region has been identified as particularly vulnerable to grid congestion due to its high levels of renewable energy production. The primary objective of the project is to better absorb locally generated energy while simultaneously improving grid stability through enhanced flexibility.

Jens Kompauer, CEO and founder of re.venture GmbH, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “In Brandenburg, significant amounts of renewable electricity are curtailed each year because our existing grid cannot accommodate all the generated power.” The new plant in Kränzlin aims to make more locally produced energy available for both market use and grid integration. By minimizing curtailment, resources are conserved, industries are strengthened, and consumers benefit from reduced costs.

Economic Impacts

The construction of this battery storage facility promises substantial economic advantages for the community. As it alleviates the need for costly redispatch measures and curtailment strategies, overall system costs will decrease significantly. Additionally, the region’s appeal as an investment location will be enhanced due to improved infrastructure supporting renewable energy initiatives.

The project is expected to generate local economic growth through trade taxes and collaborative efforts with municipal authorities that ensure much of the financial benefits remain within the community. Such investments can catalyze job creation and stimulate further economic development.

Technological Innovations

This state-of-the-art facility sets new benchmarks in battery technology by incorporating two dedicated substations that connect directly with e.dis’s 110 kV grid level. This direct integration ensures seamless functionality within existing electrical systems while allowing for modular expansion as future demand dictates.

The advanced design features rapid frequency response capabilities that enable real-time compensation for fluctuations in grid performance—offering a much quicker reaction than traditional gas turbines that typically take several minutes to adjust their output levels. The facility will also provide vital system services such as primary control power (FCR), secondary reserves (aFRR/mFRR), and black start capabilities in emergency situations.

Future-Proofing Energy Storage

With its modular architecture, this innovative plant can expand its capacity up to an impressive 480 MWh based on evolving energy needs over time. Construction is slated for commencement in 2026 with operational readiness expected by 2027—positioning Brandenburg at the forefront of sustainable energy solutions.

Conclusion

The establishment of re.venture’s large-scale battery storage park marks a significant milestone in advancing Germany’s renewable energy landscape while bolstering local economies through strategic investments in clean technology infrastructure. As we move towards an increasingly renewable-driven future, projects like these are crucial not only for enhancing grid reliability but also for promoting sustainable practices that benefit both industry stakeholders and consumers alike.
