In a groundbreaking move, EDF Renewables UK and Nature Positive have partnered with the University of Exeter’s Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) to conduct research on the ecological impact of solar farms.

The collaboration between EDF Renewables UK, Nature Positive, and the University of Exeter’s ESI marks the beginning of a long-term research program dedicated to studying how large-scale solar farms can affect soil health, fauna, wildlife habitats, and carbon flux. The research will focus on the Longfield Solar Farm in Essex, where an experimental area of approximately 50 hectares will be used to test different management regimes and compare the impact of solar panels on biodiversity, carbon levels, and soil quality.
