The Government of India has recently approved new Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) schemes aimed at evacuating 9 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy (RE) power from Rajasthan and Karnataka. These schemes are part of the ambitious goal to achieve 500 GW of RE capacity by 2030, with 200 GW already connected to the grid. The project is expected to be completed within two years at an estimated cost of INR 12,241 crore.

The Karnataka system strengthening scheme aims to evacuate 4.5 GW of RE power from the Koppal and Gadag areas. The completion of this scheme is projected for June 2027, with an estimated cost of INR 1,354 crore.
