Telia Estonia is taking significant steps towards sustainability by partnering with renewable energy solutions developer Sunly City to install solar panels at 43 mobile sites in the country. This initiative is part of Telia’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040 and 100% reuse and recycling of waste by 2030. The company’s CEO, Holger Haljand, emphasizes that the solar installations are the largest renewable energy project undertaken by Telia to date.

Telia’s Green Energy Efforts

Telia Estonia has already completed 43 solar installations alongside its mobile masts, with plans to continue the construction of the remaining installations throughout the year. Network manager Mihkel Kõiv highlights that 40 solar installations were built in 2023, with an additional 3 added at the beginning of this year. The goal is to activate nearly all 100 solar installations by the end of 2024, with a total production capacity of 1,200 kW once all stations are completed.

Telia’s Climate and Circularity Approach

Telia is dedicated to addressing the climate crisis and promoting circularity in its operations. The company has committed to reducing emissions by 90% compared to the base year of 2018 and neutralizing the rest to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. By 2030, Telia aims to halve absolute GHG emissions compared to 2018 and continue moving towards net-zero. These ambitious goals align with the SBTi Net-Zero Standard, demonstrating Telia’s proactive stance on sustainability.
