NOA Group, a South African renewable energy firm, has recently signed a significant renewable energy supply deal with Tronox, a manufacturer of titanium dioxide pigment. This agreement, totaling 497GWh, marks a milestone in Tronox’s journey towards sustainable energy practices. The deal is set to extend Tronox’s renewable energy penetration to over 70% of its electricity requirements, showcasing a commitment to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and embracing cleaner energy sources.

Revolutionizing Renewable Energy Supply Solutions

Andrew Taylor, CEO of NOA Trading, emphasized that this deal represents a groundbreaking shift in the renewable energy landscape for commercial and industrial offtakers in South Africa. By utilizing NOA’s innovative aggregation and trading platform, Tronox can benefit from a more flexible, efficient, and reliable energy supply model. This unique approach separates energy generation from consumption, allowing for tailored generation profiles and enhanced supply reliability.

Enhancing Energy Sustainability through Strategic Partnerships

Under the terms of the 25-year supply agreement, NOA will supply renewable energy to Tronox’s operational sites across the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Leveraging Eskom’s wheeling model, NOA can source energy from diverse wind and solar facilities nationwide, ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy supply. The issuance of verified International Renewable Energy Certificates further reinforces the commitment to delivering renewable energy and supporting Tronox’s decarbonization goals.

Positioning for Future Growth and Sustainability

With a substantial equity investment of R3.2 billion from its majority shareholder, AIIM, NOA is well-positioned to solidify its presence in the renewable energy market and establish strategic partnerships with industry leaders. This transaction with Tronox serves as a testament to NOA’s commitment to providing reliable renewable energy solutions to the South African market. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and embracing renewable energy sources, both NOA and Tronox are paving the way for a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
