With the installation of 21,600 panels, this new solar farm is set to become the second-largest in the state. The project, expected to be completed by November 2024, comes with a $14 million price tag. However, with reimbursements from the Inflation Reduction Act, Grand Island will receive approximately $4 million back. This solar farm will generate 9.9 megawatts of energy, providing more capacity and peaking power during the summer season. Once operational, it will be able to power around 10,000 homes, operating at the same cost as coal energy. The city of Grand Island already operates a one-megawatt farm, meaning that 20% of the city’s energy generation will come from renewable sources.
