Origis Energy, a prominent renewable energy developer in the US, has recently completed the commissioning of a significant solar-plus-storage project in Mississippi. The project, known as Golden Triangle II, comprises a 150MW solar installation coupled with a 50MW battery energy storage system (BESS). This innovative project marks a milestone in the state’s transition towards a zero-carbon economy, aligning with national energy security objectives.

Origis Energy’s Mississippi Solar-Plus-Storage Project

The Golden Triangle II project is part of a three-facility portfolio that also includes the Golden Triangle I project and the Optimist project. Each of these facilities combines 200MW of solar generation capacity with 50MW of BESS capacity, making it the largest storage portfolio under construction in Mississippi. Origis Energy aims to complete all three projects by the following year, contributing significantly to the state’s renewable energy landscape.

Partnership with Tennessee Valley Authority

Origis Energy has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to sell the power generated by these projects. The agreement ensures that the electricity produced will be utilized to meet the energy demands of TVA’s industrial customers, including leading companies like Meta. This collaboration signifies a commitment to sustainable energy practices and supports TVA’s goal of expanding its renewable energy portfolio to 10GW by 2035.

Impact on Mississippi’s Solar Sector

Mississippi currently has a relatively modest solar sector compared to other states in the US. However, with Origis Energy’s ambitious projects and TVA’s renewable energy initiatives, the state is poised for significant growth in solar capacity. The development of the Golden Triangle II project and its counterparts represents a substantial step towards enhancing Mississippi’s renewable energy infrastructure and reducing its carbon footprint.

Future Prospects for Origis Energy

Origis Energy’s successful completion of the Golden Triangle II project underscores its position as a key player in the renewable energy sector. With substantial funding secured for this and other projects, Origis Energy continues to drive innovation and sustainability in the industry. As the demand for clean energy solutions grows, Origis Energy’s contributions are instrumental in shaping a more sustainable energy future for Mississippi and beyond.
