ENERPARC AG, a leading developer and operator based in Hamburg, recently celebrated the inauguration of the Zeithain solar park in Saxony. This solar park boasts an impressive capacity of 87.1 MWp spread across approximately 95 hectares. The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable figures such as Saxony’s Minister of State for Energy, Climate Protection, Environment, and Agriculture, Wolfram Günther, and Zeithain Mayor Dr. Mirko Pollmer. This event marked a significant milestone in the region’s renewable energy landscape.

The Development of Zeithain Solar Park

Constructed in nine phases from 2016 to 2024, the Zeithain solar park stands out not only for its size but also for its unique location on the historic Old Camp, a former military site with a rich history spanning nearly 150 years. Prior to development, ENERPARC conducted extensive exploratory measures and munitions clearance operations to ensure a safe and sustainable project. Today, the solar plant generates solar power to meet the annual demand of around 25,000 households while contributing to the remediation of contaminated sites, safeguarding the nearby drinking water conservation area.

Integration and Operations

To connect the solar power to the grid, ENERPARC laid a 3.6 km cable route to Zeithain Neudorf and established its own substation for electricity conversion. Subsidiary Sunnic Lighthouse will oversee the trading of the solar power, ensuring efficient distribution and utilization. Saxony’s Energy Minister, Wolfram Günther, hailed the Zeithain solar park as a vital contributor to the region’s energy transition, supplying green electricity to support energy-intensive industrial sectors.

Biodiversity and Future Plans

Besides energy production, ENERPARC has implemented various biodiversity measures to protect and promote wildlife in and around the solar park, resulting in a tangible increase in biodiversity as confirmed by regular onsite monitoring. Looking forward, ENERPARC aims to explore green hydrogen production in the Meißen Industriebogen, leveraging the region’s high demand for hydrogen and ideal conditions for renewable energy production. Plans also include the development of additional solar parks in Zeithain and surrounding areas to further advance Saxony’s renewable energy goals.
