When it comes to renewable energy projects, community involvement and feedback play a crucial role in shaping the future of sustainable initiatives. Recently, the ‘Soul City Solar’ project has stirred up discussions and debates in the Raymond and Bolton communities of Hinds County. The proposed solar panel farm, known as the Soul City Solar Project, has sparked both support and opposition among local residents.

Community Concerns and Engagement

Residents from Raymond and Bolton expressed their concerns and opinions during a meeting with the Hinds County Zoning and Planning board. Many saw this as an opportunity to voice their apprehensions and seek clarification from the company behind the project. While some considered the meeting a victory as the board made no immediate recommendations, the residents understand that there is more work to be done to address their issues.

Uniting Against the Solar Project

Allison Lauderdale, a Raymond resident, highlighted the importance of community solidarity and the power of collective action in addressing their grievances. With nearly 800 signatures on a petition within three days, the residents are determined to continue raising awareness and advocating for alternative locations for the solar panel farm.

Transparency and Accountability

During the meeting, residents had the opportunity to engage with representatives from Apex Clean Energy, the company spearheading the Soul City Solar Project. While some residents felt that the answers provided by the company were vague and lacking in concrete evidence, Apex officials reiterated their commitment to transparency and community feedback.

Building a Sustainable Future Together

Apex Clean Energy aims to be a good neighbor and address the concerns raised by the community. By actively listening to feedback and incorporating updates based on public input, the company hopes to foster a positive relationship with the residents of Hinds County. The upcoming motions for the Soul City Solar farm and the battery storage unit will be presented to the Hinds County Board of Supervisors for final approval on June 17.

Looking Ahead: A Collaborative Approach

As the ‘Soul City Solar’ project progresses, it is essential for all stakeholders to work together towards a sustainable and mutually beneficial outcome. By engaging in constructive dialogue, sharing information transparently, and considering the diverse perspectives of the community, we can pave the way for a greener future while respecting the concerns and values of the residents.
