Although solar power’s share of U.S. power output is relatively small, it has been growing rapidly, with a 155% increase in output between 2018 and 2023. This growth rate surpasses that of wind power and natural gas-fired output during the same period. These batteries help bridge the gap when solar output decreases, reducing the need for power imports and enhancing grid stability. By leveraging battery technology and smart energy meters, utilities are learning to manage the rapid growth of solar output and navigate the complexities of energy transition.
