The Colombian Government recently announced the inauguration of a hybrid power generation plant in Casuarito, a township of Puerto Carreño, Vichada. This innovative facility combines photovoltaic panels, batteries, and a hybrid diesel backup system to extend energy service hours for 239 families in the region. This project is a collaborative effort between the Institute for Planning and Promotion of Energy Solutions (IPSE) and the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia.

Enhancing Energy Access in Casuarito

The new energy project in Casuarito involves the installation of 810 solar panels with a total generation capacity of 372.6 KWp, 154 energy storage batteries with a cumulative capacity of 1,182.72 kWh, a 132 KW backup diesel generator, and expanded distribution networks. The total investment for this project amounts to approximately 6,190 million Colombian pesos (1.6 million dollars).

Public Investment for Community Benefit

Minister of Energy Andrés Camacho highlighted the significance of this project, stating, “We have inaugurated the Casuarito hybrid power plant with a completely public investment in collaboration with the IPSE. This project enables us to extend the hours of energy service for 239 families in this non-interconnected area.” This initiative showcases the government’s commitment to improving energy access and sustainability in remote regions of Colombia.

Striving Towards Energy Efficiency

By incorporating renewable energy sources like solar power and advanced battery storage systems, the Colombian Government is taking proactive steps towards enhancing energy efficiency and reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuels. The hybrid plant in Casuarito not only provides a reliable energy source for the local community but also sets a precedent for sustainable energy development in the region.

Empowering Communities Through Renewable Energy

The inauguration of the solar-powered hybrid plant in Casuarito represents a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to empower communities with clean and renewable energy solutions. By leveraging solar technology and innovative storage systems, the project not only improves energy access but also contributes to environmental conservation and long-term sustainability.
