Partnering with Dominion Energy, Suffolk Public Schools recently launched the Solar for Students Program at King’s Fork High School, marking a significant step towards educating students about clean energy and sustainability. The program aims to empower students by showcasing the process of converting sunlight into electrical energy through a solar array installation on campus. This initiative not only promotes environmental stewardship but also provides valuable hands-on learning opportunities for the next generation.

Empowering Students Through Solar Education

King’s Fork High School students, teachers, and officials participated in a lively “solarbration” event, highlighting the importance of solar energy education. The 1.2-kilowatt solar panel not only powers desktop computers but also offers real-time data on energy generation, enhancing students’ understanding of renewable energy sources.

Building a Sustainable Future

The Solar for Students Program is a joint effort between Dominion Energy and the National Energy Education Development project, funded by the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation. By engaging students in hands-on learning experiences, the program equips them with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for sustainable practices and environmental conservation.

Shaping Tomorrow’s Energy Leaders

Chemistry Instructor Sharon Criner expressed excitement about the program’s potential to cultivate informed advocates for clean energy among students. Similarly, Dominion Energy Spokesperson Timothy Eberly emphasized the importance of instilling a sense of responsibility towards the environment in the next generation.

Engaging Students in Clean Energy Initiatives

The Solar for Students Program not only educates students about solar energy but also encourages them to explore careers in renewable energy fields. By fostering a deeper understanding of clean energy technologies and their impact, the program prepares students to become future leaders in the energy industry.
